Studying for an exam can be a nail-biting ordeal. However, foreign languages require a slightly different approach than many other subjects. Here are some tips that will help you score higher on your next test. Many of the tips can be applied to other fields of study as well.
Prepare Well in Advance
Don’t procrastinate until the night before a test to crack open your notes and textbooks. Careful preparation can save last-minute anxiety and pressure.
Even if you have a good command of English sentence structure and rules, you should purchase a comprehensive grammar textbook. An excellent knowledge of your own language will make any foreign tongue easier to learn.
Whether you find it on the internet or in a library, make sure that you have access to some foreign language prose. Short stories in parallel translation are an excellent choice. Spend a few minutes every day reading. Be sure to say each word aloud or whisper the words as you speak. This will reinforce foreign language speech patterns.
Familiarize yourself with the pronunciation and syllable emphasis of unknown words. To accomplish this, you must have a high-quality foreign language dictionary.
Whenever you encounter unfamiliar lesson material, skim through it and make mental note of new grammatical concepts and vocabulary. Then go through it again, slowly and comprehensively.
Prepare your written assignments as soon as you receive them. The time interval between preparation and due date will allow you to reflect on what you have done, making corrections and revisions, and thereby receiving a higher mark.
If you are experiencing difficulty with specific words or phrases, develop a mental-image jogger. For example, if you cannot remember that the German word for ‘crow’ (die Krähe) is feminine, think of a big black crow with large red lips and curly blonde hair. The more outrageous the image, the more likely you will be to remember the material.
Try preparing your own self-quizzes. The entire process is educational, and will quickly reinforce your learning.
Save every piece of paper handed out in class. What seems inconsequential at first may later prove to be of great value.
Capitalize on Empty Time
How much time do you spend watching television? Every hour of North American TV contains about 20 minutes of commercials. Don’t raid the fridge or daydream during commercial breaks – study! Amazingly, your brain will correlate these sandwiched breaks with material you are watching on the tube, and your learning will progress – even during the 40 minutes per hour of viewing time.
If you spend more than a few minutes every day on bus or subway commutes, be sure to take along some study notes. Even in ‘standing room only’ you can often accomplish a few minutes of effective studying with a clipboard and a few pages of vocabulary printouts.
Forget the Last-Minute Rush
Ensure that your notes are always up-to-date. Spending a few minutes daily hitting the books is much more effective than last-minute cramming. Not only will you be less stressed, but the knowledge is more likely to remain with you over the long term.
Reviewing notes just before bedtime works well. Your brain is adept at collating, correlating, and filing while you sleep.
24 Hours Before the Examination
The night before your exam, go to bed on time and get a good sleep. If you have some information rolling around in your head that is likely to keep you awake, jot it down and review it the following morning.
Just before you write your exam, eat a light meal that has a good combination of carbohydrates (for immediate brain glucose) and protein (for delayed glucose release). Try something like a whole-grain bagel with ham accompanied by a piece of fresh fruit. Go easy on the coffee and soda. A full bladder during an exam can be uncomfortable and extremely distracting. (Don’t forget to use the restroom before sitting down at your desk!)
Get organized – right now – and you will be rewarded with higher marks on your next quiz or test.
Love, is where two hearts meet and knit together through happiness and sadness. Love can make many hearts skip with excitement yet love can also cause many broken hearts. It takes little effort for one to become a romantic partner. The many creative and interesting ways to add romance in relationship can be readily found in books, magazines, and the internet. It takes great effort for those in pursuit of a deeper love relationship that could survive many unprepared and unexpected storms. Many will readily say “yes” when asked whether they are romantic lovers. However, few will admit that they are consummate lovers that does not seek the returns of love but are willing to devote their lives in giving true happiness to the person they love.
Whether you are in love, falling out of love or have never been in love, it is never too early or too late to learn the greatest language of love. Learning to love is a growing process. It always starts off with the special feelings that could not get your mind off from thinking about the special person. If such feelings are experienced by the two persons who are about to fall in love, it leads to an eclectic stage where both eyes and hearts are strongly magnetized towards each other. Great deal of time is now spent together as the sparks of love turn into burning flames; where romance is at its peak. However, this journey of love which initially took off to Caribbean beach; surrounded by sunset and paradise, soon landed on the pathway of reality. The flames of love have gradually smothered as the demands and expectations of life set in.
For some, the flames have smothered into shimmering sparks similar to that found in the fire flies. These sparks are soon carried by the fire flies to ignite another flame with someone else. This is when love causes heartaches and trust, betrayed. Yet for many, the flames have smothered into dust, leaving the relationship dry and dull. This is when the very core of love is tested. The survivability of the relationship is no longer depended on whether roses are given or romantic candle light dinner is prepared. It is about whether the relationship can survive the storm with determination and commitment to help each face the storm; as well as unconditional and sacrificial love to give hope and faith in surviving the storm together.
In facing such relentless storm that could break or build the relationship, what is the greatest language of love? Most conservatists will opt for the most classic language that is widely spoken, from youthful passions to mature companionships, a language that has touched and warmed many hearts: “I Love You”! As simple and classic as it may sound, some took great bravery to confess it; some said it casually to create momentary romance that soon fades away; while many have said it again and again, to the point of death that life has ended well because of the power of love.
This indeed is the greatest language of love. Not spoken with selfish and manipulative intentions but with the deepest desire to cherish the moments spent with your loved one, to be a pillar of strength though various seasons of life, and to hold on tightly to each other even at the point of diminishing hope, because after the storm is gone, sunrise and sunset will soon appear. The storm is here but a moment. The sunset and sunrise last a life time for as long as both hearts keep guarding the flames and never put it off……“till death do us part”.
As a translation services manager on the client side you are probably aware of the many questions you should ask when hiring translation services companies. Your department is centralized with linguists and project managers specialized in the area. But often, especially in many smaller companies, employees are tasked with sub-contracting large translations under the assumption that their task should be simple thus ignoring due diligence and causing mayhem.
Typical problems often ignored include differing file formats requiring different engineering tasks and ensuing costs. On the linguistic side there are many considerations to be taken into account to ensure quality such as the volume and deadline, the translation agency quality procedures and the flavor of the language into which the document is being translated.
The following is a series of questions and answers to consider when outsourcing your translation services needs:
1. What is the source language and target of the document? One must bear in mind that certain language combinations are harder to come by than others which has a bearing on availability and cost. Translating from English to French is a much easier outsourcing process than from Zulu to French.
2. What is the flavor of the target language? For instance a French translator from Paris translating into Algerian French can lead to a lot of quality issues.
3. What is the reason for the translation? For instance in the case of a legal translation, does the translation need to be sworn or certified.
4. What is the standard required for the translation? Will it be published and be the corporate face of the company or is it just for internal purposes only?
5. Is there a particular style of the translation? For instance does it have to adhere to an in-house style guide? Are there particular terms for the translation to adhere to? Perhaps the layout has to adhere to a particular in-house style?
6. What is the field of translation? Is it a legal, business or medical translation? In this case ensure the translator has the relevant experience translating in this particular field, ask the agency for a translator profile.
7. Check and see if you can provide the translation services company reference material such as previous translations, glossaries etc.
8. What format is the document in? Depending on the format there maybe additional engineering costs for the target language. Do you have the capacity to do these tasks in-house or is it more cost beneficial and realistic to outsource these tasks? Ask for a quote and ensure that you understand the additional engineering costs that are involved and decide from there. If you have done your homework in advance you will often get a feel for the level of professionalism and expertise that the client has.
9. Be aware of the translation metrics involved in translation and it’s engineering tasks. If your deadline is too soon you may have to realize that this will have an effect on quality and consistency
10. Will you have to send updates of the files after the agency has started translating? Has there been a system devised to cope with these updates between you and the client. Are you prepared for the extra costs of the updates and advised your boss?
11. Do you require Translation Memory technology to be used by the vendor? Are their Translation memory rates as competitive as other vendors? Shop around and get other translation quotes.
12. It often helps to proofread the source text before being sent to translation. This avoids updates and poorly written texts which lead to poor translations
13. Is copyright to be retained or transferred?
14. What are the payment terms?
15. Is there a set of business terms and conditions?
Flirting is one of the best skills you can learn when it comes to attracting women. Flirting is not difficult, but there are some techniques that you can learn to ensure you are effectively building the chemistry and attraction. By understanding the best flirting techniques, you can project your sexuality without saying a word and make her attracted to you almost instantly.
Unfortunately, men are not taught relationship and attraction skills and, consequently, many guys are lost when it comes to effectively building sexual chemistry with a woman. The good news is that flirting is something you can learn.
Before you actually begin flirting, though, it is essential that you prepare yourself mentally. You need to be confident and comfortable with yourself and disregard any faults you may let bring you down. No one is perfect, but it will be far more difficult to attract a woman when you are in a negative mindset.
Successful flirting revolves around having fun, portraying an interesting personality and enjoying the woman you are talking to. All of this ‘preparation’ is important to create an atmosphere conducive to flirting. This will help ensure you can build an almost immediate connection with any woman you engage in conversation.
Once the right atmosphere is set, you must make sure your body languages is aligned with your attitude. Your body language should project a sense of confidence yet a relaxed attitude. It’s all about body language flirting!
The key is to show her that you are enjoying the conversation and interaction, yet not worried about the outcome. What you want to avoid is a sign that you are taking things too seriously. Rather, you want her to see you as a confidant man who is not concerned about whether or not she is into you. This will give off just the right positive vibe to subconsciously draw her to you and make her want you even more.
It is also important that you give off a warm, welcoming attitude which is projected through your body language as well. Learn forward to her somewhat while she is talking and leave your arms unfolded. Folding your arms across you, for example, shows a closed personality and definitely not contribute to an attraction.
Finally, knowing how to use your smile is essential to body language flirting. A friendly smile tells a woman you are interested in her and want to get to know her.
Giving off a confident smile adds to the right flirting atmosphere and is a welcoming sign helping her feel more relaxed and comfortable around you. Your smile really is the best tool you have when it comes to flirting.
Understanding and knowing how to flirt is essential to attracting women, but portraying the right body language is basically a precursor to even the initial conversation. Create the right atmosphere, smile and relax. By doing this, you will find it much easier to build the attraction.
The language for all aviators and air traffic control officers (ATCOs) who wish to operate internationally is English. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has produced a creditable and expansive manual, which details future English-language communication requirements for aircraft operators. Those requirements come into effect on 5 March 2008.
The ICAO document, which details the English-language proficiency requirements is, to all intents and purposes, a Statement of Requirement. Training providers Worldwide, and the aviation industry as a whole, therefore need to adapt to meet the demand and the challenge faced by all concerned. The requirement is to raise standards in aviation communications globally, commonly referred to as Aviation English. However, there needs to be greater understanding that the term ‘Aviation English’ covers a considerably wider field of knowledge and expertise than many currently appreciate. The following is designed to provide some indication as to the degrees of enormity and complexity that the industry faces in contributing to, and in meeting the task of imposing safe English-language communication skills among aircraft operators World-wide.
Pilots and ATCOs are at the front line of aircraft operations. The extent of the training that these personnel have to endure to achieve full operational status is enormous. Training can extend to periods of up to 2 years in the case of pilots and tends to comprise one long, uninterrupted process. In the case of ATCOs, however, because of the different specialisations involved in that function and their varying degrees of complexity, training tends to be conducted in phases, as controllers’ progress through their individual career paths and gain experience in the different specialisations open to them. In both cases, training is ongoing, not only because of the degree of knowledge required, due to ever-changing working locations, but also because of the continual updating of the equipment in use, ongoing revisions to the rules and regulations, and also frequent changes in the air traffic operating environment.
Following a rigorous selection process, whereby only very small percentages of individuals actually have the aptitude to be successful pilots or ATCOs, there begins a learning process that is extensive in respect of the degree of fundamental knowledge required by aircraft operators in a wide range of fields. In addition to the many practical skills required to perform their respective roles, pilots and ATCOs require extensive knowledge of the following: meteorology; physics; geography; navigation; maps and charts; theory of flight; mechanics; aircraft construction; airframes and engines; electrics, electronics and avionics; instrumentation; hydraulics; rules of the air; aviation rules and regulations, both in the air and on the ground; and air traffic control regulations. Aircraft operators are also required to have a precise and unambiguous knowledge and understanding of the following: a vast range of aviation-related definitions, some straight-forward, others quite complex; a wide range of very precise and unambiguous phraseology, to cover all routine and non-routine situations; a plethora of aviation-specific abbreviations; and a vast array of aviation-related vocabulary, which most native speakers of English seldom use in everyday life. In addition, all aircraft operators require an appreciation of medicine, biology, and human performance limitations. Furthermore, all concerned with aircraft operations are required to undergo daily briefings, both oral and written, and have to read and fully understand numerous daily and periodical publications: for example, Flight Information Publications, which provide essential information and warnings related to flight safety, and Notices to Airmen, which provide information concerning daily changes within the aviation environment. Comprehending these documents would prove a significant challenge to any aircraft operator who is not a native speaker of English. In addition to speaking and listening skills in English, therefore, reading comprehension is a skill that should also be given emphasis in any Aviation English training syllabus.
To become a successful pilot or ATCO, one requires a very high degree of a particular type of aptitude, coupled with a supreme mental agility of many different kinds. However, it is important to note that the aptitude required to be a successful pilot, is very different to that required to be an effective and competent ATCO. Nevertheless, both professions require individuals to have the ability to be extremely calm under pressure, to multi-task both mentally and physically, and to assimilate information quickly and effectively and to act upon it correctly and decisively. At the end of their rigorous and lengthy process of training, and when they have achieved full
Body language is the most valuable asset you have when attracting women. They did a survey some time ago about men approaching and 80% of woman said that they would prefer a guy approaching with a smile on his face. You have 80 different muscles in your face so USE them.
Your body language is the most effective weapon you have when interacting with a woman. Women make approximately 30 judgments about you within the first 30 seconds and most of it is portrayed via your body language. Women will listen to your words but if you can learn how to use your body it can work to your advantage. You can create enthusiasm by using your body, you can build anticipation, build attraction, come across as confident, strong, mature and MORE.
Everything matters with body language from your hands to the stance of where your feet are and YES all women notice this. Women can feel your energy and power when you portray good strong body language and you will send chills down their neck.
So how do you use your body when talking to women? Well if I got you to imagine a depressed person, I am sure you would be able to do it. Head down, shoulders shrugged forward, body stiff and closed in, eye contact at the floor.
Now if I told you to imagine yourself as if you had just won a championship how would you be holding your body? Head up, shoulders back, chest out, eyes level, stance.
So how do you approach women? First of all I will suggest what you must not do when talking to women. Don’t fidget, all guys make this mistake and it is not attractive, guys will sway, play with their jewelry, look around the room, hands in pockets, lean in toward women, stand too close, touch woman too early on, hold eye contact for too long.
You need to find the balance for body language and you need to get a woman to believe that you are way too comfortable for the situation, that nothing bothers you about talking to her as it shouldn’t. You should be powerful having your shoulders back and your feet should be shoulder width apart taking up room. When standing still you should always have one leg in front and shoulder length apart and one leg slightly bent. When talking to women always lean back and make eye contact but don’t stare, look at let her know that you are comfortable and she does not intimidate you.
Having your hands in the back of your pockets works and using your arms and hands when talking will stop you from fidgeting, try to always keep your hands just above your waist when interacting with a woman. Never walk straight toward a woman and get right into her face always talk to a woman from the side at the start and then slowly turn in towards her or more so the women will turn into you.
By doing all of these subtle little movements with your body you will come across as strong and powerful and a man, without even having to OPEN your mouth. So be confident with women and remember that confidence is nothing but a state that you put yourself in. You can’t get confidence it is something that you create inside of yourself.
Who of us wouldn’t just love to learn a new language? In fact, every human being is driven to search for meaning. Passive observation is just not enough; it is the interactivity that is so essential. “Tell me, and I forget. Show me, and I remember. Let me do, and I understand,” says the ancient Chinese proverb. It’s one thing to show your child a picture of the ocean, and say “ocean,” and quite another thing to let her splash in an ocean and say, “The ocean is water.” You can continue this exercise in more sophisticated ways as your child grows. If your 8-year-old, for example, is enjoying a TV program about airplanes, why not take him to an airport and ask a pilot to show you a cockpit?
Research in the area of memory indicates that a person only retains, long-term: 10% of what they read, but 90% of what they do and say! Findings suggest that “the brain develops on a ‘use it or lose it’ principle.” So, the best time to master a skill associated with a system is just when a new system is coming on line in your brain. Language is the perfect example. It’s very easy for a 2 year old to learn any new language. So, What idiot decreed that foreign-language shouldn’t begin until high school?
For years, many teachers have found that their “Holy Grail” has been attention. But evidence suggests that the brain’s ability to stay attentive for extended periods of time is not only rare but difficult. The brain needs downtime! If you don’t give it to them they’ll just tune out anyway. So, Why don’t students remember what they were taught? This usually occurs because the information served no useful purpose in their lives and their brains dropped it. Or probably because they didn’t learn in the first place!
Here is some news for you: Most attractive women are going to know within a matter of mere seconds whether or not you are a sexually aware and sexually confident man, upon seeing you or interacting directly with you. This is the point where they make a purely unconscious decision of whether or not you could ever be a possible sexual partner. Can you imagine that all of this is done within a matter of seconds or minutes? These unconscious decisions tend to be based on voice tone, and the body language of sexual attraction.
Since at this point we know that attraction is not really a choice that we can make, some things can be generalized as follows -
- If you are unaware of what type of body language communicates that you are sexy or desirable, then you are probably making mistakes completely by accident that could be affecting your chances.
- The words that you say are not really what matters at all. What really matters is how you go about saying them, with a combination of your voice and your body language.
- It is quite possible for you to learn exactly what it will take to communicate that you are both quite sexually aware, and confident in nature, using the tone of your voice and your body language. Learning this skill is going to make the art of attracting beautiful women much easier than before. Unfortunately, not enough people are paying attention to this concept, because too many men out there are caught up in the concept of being macho, and as a result they find themselves wasting away without the ability to attract a beautiful woman.
If you are unaware of what it takes to project the right kind of voice and body language, you are probably doing something wrong. The right moves can give a woman a serious jolt of sexual attraction, but if you are doing anything wrong, you need to change your way of thinking and behaving. Attraction is based so largely on voice and body language, that the only effective way to attract women from the word go is going to be mastering the art of getting her attention and sending a jolt of attraction down her spine.
Here’s an example: If you see a woman that you believe to be attractive, use eye contact longer than her. Do not look away, no matter how self conscious you are feeling. She will notice you looking, and she will appreciate it if you continue looking longer than she does.
If you have an interest in how the mind works, or you are looking for tips on obtaining enlightenment, the technique below may be the most important tool you’ve ever been given.
Let me show you a new way to think.
The Language of Feeling
The Language of Feeling is a method of thinking that is feel-based so it’s important to start by learning how things feel. With a small amount of practice you’ll naturally identify things this way and your mind will seem much lighter and faster.
Everything that exists has a unique feeling or ‘frequency’, even if they seem identical. In the technique below you’ll be starting out by identifying the feeling of things. This is the ABCs of the Language of Feeling.
This article is meant to articulate the technique itself. My preceding articles “How We Limit Our Mind” and “Learn to Think at Light Speed” offer more supporting information.
The Language of Feeling Technique
Learning the language of feeling is easy once you know what to look for. It is a technique that starts off small and novel and for the patient student, expands quickly to revolutionize consciousness.
1. Select any object in your immediate vicinity -do this now.
2. Now, without touching it, imagine touching it with your hand. Imagine feeling the texture, the edges, softness or hardness, the temperature. -Please do this now.
3. Without touching it you automatically know exactly how it feels, don’t you? That’s it. It only takes a few seconds to identify that feeling.
Did you feel it? At first, it may not even register as a feeling but more as something you notice or imagine. But that’s ok – you got it! It becomes more of an actual feeling as you practice.
How do you know when you are doing it right? You are successful when you can acknowledge to yourself that you know what the object feels like. All the other benefits we talked about branch off of this with practice.
When beginning, don’t overstep the simplicity of the feeling or the technique, it is simple and subtle. Realize that you are using your brain to do something completely different then normal, you are learning to target the specific frequency in each object.
Now move to a different object and do the same thing.
You see, as you practice you’ll find that you are able to feel more and more, as though you’re awakening a part of your brain that has been dormant. Objects will eventually open up to you like a book. More sensations, visualizations, feelings – and all of this is data!
After a week of solid practice, incorporate more variety, like rooms, settings, thoughts, potential situations, towns – you get the idea. They all feel different.
A lot of the benefits discussed in the supporting articles will become apparent with consistent practice, and that’s a valuable gift.
All you have to do is practice this for 5 minutes a day. It’s so easy!I should also point out that there are some other things that will greatly accelerate the learning process. The most important is accompanying this technique with a regular meditation that will expand the senses and Non-thought. Higher Balance Institute supports a meditation called Foundation that works perfectly with this technique.
According to a national census in 2000, almost twenty percent of the population in America speaks a language other than English in the home. With this fact in mind, it shouldn’t be surprising that that there are a lot of children in school who may not speak or understand English very well. In fact, in some schools, one out of every four children is an English language learner. Unfortunately, this situation presents challenges for both students and teachers.
For the teachers, English language learners usually require more individual time, attention and creative teaching. And, if the class is large, providing these things can be a difficult task. For the student, the language barrier makes everything from asking questions and learning the material to socializing with other students a constant struggle. That is why building basic speaking, writing and reading skills is such an important part of working with English language learners.
One of the best ways to develop reading and oral comprehension skills is through computer programs. With a computer program, a student can listen to words, play games and read entertaining material with interactive activities. In addition to entertaining and teaching the student, many of these programs can generate progress reports for the teacher and help children become proficient computer users. They can also be used independently which frees up a little of the teacher’s time.
There are also good strategies for developing writing and speaking skills in the classroom. For example, if you want to accelerate a student’s speaking skills, be sure to ask them questions that require more than a yes or no answer and encourage them to share things about their culture with the class. This exercise enriches the class’s understanding and builds confidence in an ELL student. As they learn, keep in mind that grammar mistakes can be a sign or development rather than signs of failure.
The best way to develop writing skills is simply through practice. Start off with letter-tracing worksheets and slowly move to free-hand words and sentences. Have the kids write things that they want to like stories or notes to friends and parents. That will help them see how useful the skill can be and encourage individual effort.
ELL students definitely have a harder task than English-speaking students when it comes to education because they are struggling to understand and master the English language in addition to learning the new material covered in the curriculum. On the other hand, teachers need to careful to give the English-speaking students sufficient time and attention too.
