Question by privateale: What would I necessitate to major in to go an interpreter or translator?
I looked at linguistics, but it doesn’t require learning other languages.

You would major in a foreign language. Some schools also have majors like “Romance Languages” that require fluency in several languages.There are very few jobs in languages like Spanish, French, etc. and native speakers are the most valuable.

I need to interview a Japanese tattoo artist here in Japan.These guys have a tendency not to talk to foreigners, or anyone for that matter.Anyway, I have my choice to bring either a guy or a girl, native Japanese, to translate….I’d much prefer to bring a girl, but will it show more respect or increase my chances of getting info, if i bring a guy instead?Also, the artist is old, will it help to bring someone older w/business experience, or is a young student good enough?
