Helping People and Communities

Every year Language Marketplace has chosen a charity to support. We have provided the charity with a percentage of our net revenue of one of our fiscal quarters. However, in 2017, we want to go 'Above and Beyond'.

  • 2017
  • Language Marketplace wants 2017 to be a year in which we go above and beyond being generous and helping others.

Do you have a charity or a cause that you would like us to consider sponsoring? Perfect! Send us an email and tell us why it is special and how would our help benefit your cause/charity. Please give us as much information as possible. EACH quarter we will chose one charity and provide financial assistance based upon our fiscal results for the previous quarter.

We will also update this page, so don’t forget to check back here often. Also check our Facebook page as well, where more details will be posted, and of course don’t forget to follow us on Twitter!

January: To kick off our ‘Above and Beyond’ in making 2017 very special, Emilie, one of our Account Managers, has generously donated her monthly bonus from our Peer Star Awards system to Operation Smile. Every month for 2017 our staff has generously decided to donate their monthly winnings to a charity of their choice. This month, the gift will allow Operation Smile to use the funds, in their own words, 'to be put to ‘work immediately to help children with a cleft lip or cleft palate. The impact you will have on a child's life will be felt FOREVER. That's an incredibly powerful and rare thing’.

  • Guatemala is the most populous nation in Central America, it is well known for its ancient Mayan ruins, beautiful lush rainforests and majestic volcanoes. Despite the nation being quite stable for many years now, Guatemala’s history of military corruption and civil war have created a country where over 50% of the people are living below the poverty line and within this poverty stricken country those that are most vulnerable are the children. In Guatemala City alone there are almost 400,000 children currently at significant risk of violence, corruption, abuse and malnutrition. It is well know that a good education is one of the strongest methods to help people pull themselves out of poverty and to stop the cycle. However, currently less than 20% of all children ever complete the sixth grade and for the children of Guatemala City many of them will never see the inside of a classroom, let alone get to grade 6, and most of their teaching will be found on the violent streets of the inner cities.

For the 5th year in a row, various members of the Forest Brook Community Church will take part of a humanitarian mission to Guatemala. Their mission will be focused on rebuilding a school within Guatemala City that was destroyed by mudslides, providing a much-needed safe learning environment. The total cost of the project is around $100,000.00, to rebuild the class rooms, washrooms, to landscape the school grounds and build security walls around the property of the school. Members of the Church pay for their own expenses for the mission, and will work really hard to accomplish something amazing and rewarding. In addition they will also be working with the community doing outreach, helping provide food and clothing to those most in need.

Language Marketplace is honored to have the opportunity to provide them with support in terms of a monetary donation to aid this group to Guatemala, October 21-28, 2016.

Also in 2016, our President and many of the staff at the Canadian head office ran the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon on October 16, 2016, where they raised funds for ALS. Charles Valliere, an in-house French translator at Language Marketplace had been diagnosed with ALS in 2011. Charles was at the finish line in 2014, but unfortunately this year he was only present in spirit. To learn more about ALS or if you would like to directly donate, please visit.
